St Croix is quite a small island, however rest assured that it still has more than enough medical centres and hospitals.

The main hospital on the island is the Governor Juan F.Luis Hospital and medical centre, here you can expect to see only the best in medical technology and patient care.

Not only are there hospitals on the island, also there are AMA board certified doctors who specialise in several different areas of health care.

There really is a very high standard of care available to everyone who is on the island.

Some of the larger hotels on the island even have an on-site nurse who can treat many problems or refer you to the best medical centre or hospital.

Other hotels who do not have these facilities are always willing to lend a hand and guide you to the best places to get the highest standard of care.

Below is some information about the hospitals on the island:

Charles Harwood Memorial Hospital

Once the only hospital on the island, it is now more in a clinic style.

People often visit here with injuries or problems that are not seen serious enough to attend a proper hospital for treatment.

Death and birth certificates can be obtained here, as well as lab tests and several other services that a full service hospital can offer.

Governor Juan F.Luis Hospital

This hospital has everything you would expect from a full service hospital, afterall it is the only full service hospital on the island so has to keep up with the needs of its patients.

It offers an emergency room for more severe injuries and advanced cardiac treatment.

Many people who fall in or get injured on the island will end up been treated in this hospital. Some patients with very serious injuries may be air lifted to the hospital in Puerto Rico or in some cases mainland US hospitals.

Hotel staff are likely to give good advice on which hospital to visit. The hospital holds national accreditation for its services to the public.

Other health services available on the island are shown below:

Acupuncture – Rehab Centre at Beeston Hill

Allergy & Immunology- Island medical Centre

Anaesthesiology – Beeston Hill Medical Centre

Cardiovascular disease – Island Medical Centre & Beeston Hill Medical Centre

Chiropractic – Rehab Centre Beeston Hill & Village Mall Bay

Dentistry and Orthodontics – Sunny Isle Medical Centre and Easterly Professional Bldg

Dermatology – Primco Profession building

Diabetes – Sunny Isle High Sugar and Beeston Hill Medical Centre

Ear, Nose and Throat – Earaches Beeston Hill Medical Centre

Exercise and Fitness – Beeston Hill Fitness Centre

General Medicine – Beeston Hill Medical Centre and Sunny Isle Medical Centre

As you can see for such a small island it really doesn’t hold back on the level of health services it offers to the people here.

Hopefully during your visit to the island you will not get injured or have any health problems, however in the unfortunate event of this happening, there is someone somewhere on the island that is more than qualified to treat you!

The tours are carried out in the open air safari buses which are even air conditioned for your personal comfort. The tour guides will talk you through all the historic land marks that you come across on the journey.

Whether you are taking a trip to the beautiful island of St Croix for some casual sightseeing, or if you are the type of person who is looking for the ultimate relaxation holiday, scuba diving should be a ‘must do’ activity whilst on the island.

Scuba diving is extremely popular in all holiday resorts around the world, especially true for islands and mainland resorts which have the privilege of having the Caribbean sea at it’s shore lines.

The stunning island of St Croix can offer some of the best Scuba diving sites that you will be able to visit around the world, a small island, with a huge amount of possibilities!

With some holiday destinations you are likely to only have the chance to dive at one or two sites, due to the lack of coral around the shores, this is not the case for this island!

You will be spoilt for choice if you choose to have a day out diving, this is due to fact that the island boasts no less than 50 sites in which you can dive, yes you heard that right, 50 diving sites available to you!

The sea around the shores will entice you into the depths, and once you have experienced this, you will never forget some of the most amazing sights you are likely to see in your lifetime.

One specific sight that is a choice for most is known as ‘The Wall’. This drop off runs almost the entire length of the north shore of the island and plunges to depths of around 3,200, plenty of room to explore and see some of the mind boggling sea creatures and plant life from around the world.

To some this may seem extremely daunting, but rest assured that there are other sites that can be just as jaw dropping without the need for such extreme depths.

Why not take a trip to the historic town of Frederiksted and experience the thrill of diving down and weaving your way through the 6 sunken ships that have met their fate in these shores several years ago.

Here you can see for yourself what kind of sea life can thrive on the ships now resting on the sea floor!

As well as the 6 ships available to view, there is also a pier which is now considered one the best night dives that you can experience whilst on the island. So not only can you experience diving with sunlight beaming through the crystal clear waters, you can also have the stunning experience of diving whilst the sun is casting is final light of the day upon the rippling surface of the Caribbean sea.

If you are someone who has always been interested in taking a trip into the sea but have not got around to doing it before, and therefore need some lessons, do not worry as you are in the right place to learn from some of the best.

Most of the dive shops offer introductory courses so you can only take to the depths once you know exactly what you are doing, and will not be putting yourself, or anyone else in danger.

If you are keen enthusiast and already have your own equipment then that is great, however diving shops do lend out all types of equipment to enable you to have the best in diving experiences.

Of course there is some cost to having the privilege of seeing some of the most spectacular sights that ocean has to offer, but these are always kept to a minimum on the island and you will always get great value for money, its a promise!

This is a chance that has to be taken when visiting the island, and once you have experienced the thrill, you will be wondering how you will fit in all the diving sites in the remaining days of your holiday. It really is mind blowing!

As you would expect from an island of such natural beauty the arts that are created here is a true reflection of the island its self.

Many of the local artists that have chosen to live on this island have an aim and thrive upon producing art work that can live up to the beautiful island and the way in which people live their lives here. Artists imitate the stunning shore lines of the Caribbean Sea and the island through paintings, pottery, sculptures and the finest photography.

You can find many different private art galleries around the island which are there for one purpose; to truly amaze you with the quality and diversity of art in which the island has to offer.

If you are visiting the island form the month of November up until June, you will have the privilege of been able to take a gentle walk through the streets of Christiansted to experience what is known locally as ‘Arts Thursday’.

On this day you will be able to view several different art exhibits showing off the best the island has to offer, and to make this experience even more relaxing, you can do it all whilst having a drink of some of the finest wines available on the island.

The culture of the island as it is now has derived down through many years as different types of people have left there cultural ways on the island. The very first people to inhabit the island were the Carib and the Arawak people.

Soon after this, the English, French and Dutch people had their turns colonizing the island and from this had a chance to leave their own cultural influence behind. Today the island has its own culture that can be said to have been influenced by the many cultural backgrounds that it has seen since it was discovered, all of this as well as been part of the united states, making it a very diverse resort for tourists.

The island culture is extremely relaxed and of high spirit, something that is typical of the many different islands around the world.

The ‘Jump Up’ Festival is something that has to be seen to be fully appreciated; this festival is extremely fun and is a true reflection of the culture on this island.

It draws in huge amounts of tourists and leaves a permanent memory of the fun- loving spirit that the island boasts.

Although the culture on the island has changed some what throughout the past, some traditions have been carried on and are still been taught today.

An example of this is the Mocko Jumbies that can been seen parading up and down the streets when a special event or festival is taking place on the island. The Mocko Jumbies are masked stilt walkers that represent the sacred spirits that protected African villages when the slaves first came onto the islands, this is now a huge cultural art form that is taught to school kids on the island.

The culture of the island offers something for everyone no matter what your background, may it be the tasteful cuisine, fantastic island music or the relaxion, or even a mix of all of these, the way of life here is sure to make you smile throughout the duration of your stay.

Golf is probably one of the most popular sports around the world. Not only is it an essential part of many peoples day to day life, it is also something people like to do whilst on holiday, may it be a casual hobby or something you take extremely seriously.

Nearly every holiday destination now promotes golf courses available to holiday makers and sometimes this can be enough to make a simple choice on where to go on holiday.

St Croix is no different, it also has a lot to offer for golf players. May you be experienced, or wanting to try it out for the first time, St Croix will meet your needs!

Although St Croix is relatively small compared to other islands around the world, and other mainland resorts, you will be surprised to know that it offers 3 different golf courses to you can be assured you are not going to be let down if you are wanting to play golf in the Caribbean heat.

Below is some information about each of the three courses on the island.

The Reef Golf Course

This golf course is nestled in the Teague Bay situated on the much respected east end of the island.

Situated by the beach and having beautiful palm trees this is considered by many as a truly stunning course. Due to the position of the course, you can take advantage of the brisk breeze which is sometimes needed in order to cool you down from the heat of the midday sun.

The course has a par of 35 and has 9 holes, the course also boasts a driving range. The driving range is popular for many as it offers new players a chance to practice and helps the more experienced to perfect their swing.

On site there is also a tennis court, a stunning beach and a fine restaurant, so this is the idyllic course for people who want to have a fun packed day.

Carambola Golf Club

This golf club is a complete treasure to american golf itself and most certainly one of the finest golf courses on the virgin islands, some even consider it to be the back backdrop a golfer can experience in the whole of the united states.

The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, known to many as one of the most highly respected designers in the 20th century. Once the course was officially opened in 1966, the designer himself was said to have considered this course as one of the best he has ever designed.

The course is situated on the northwest side of the island with fairways winding through lush greenery and palm trees.

The course has the full 18 holes and an overall par of 72, so not a short course! 7 of the 18 holes have picturesque lakes fed by natural springs that double up as water hazards, adding to the challenge of completing the course with a respectable score!

However don’t be put off by this, you don’t need to be an advanced player to enjoy this course.

There are 4 different tee markers for all skill levels and relatively large landing greens so your shots don’t need to be 100% accurate to avoid hazards!

This course has already been awarded a gold medal and been given a 4 star rating, so you will not be disappointed. As you would expect from a large prestigious course, it does offer lots of other facilities, these include:

Practice putting green, driving range, clubhouse, pro shop, bar and restaurant, so you are able to enjoy a fine round of golf and be rewarded with a ice cold drink at the end of the day!

This course is definitely a must visited for all golf enthusiasts who visit the island!

Buccaneer Golf Club

This coursed designed by the PGA professional Bob Joyce is the most challenging course out of the three on the island.

It is a par 70 course that is fairly hilly and is likely to land you in trouble if you do not have a full set of gold clubs, all clubs will be needed to keep you out of the hazards!

The course is situated on the shoreline of Beauregard bay and offers stunning views. Not many courses can offer the chance to have the view of the glistening Caribbean sea from no less than 13 holes on the course!

The third hole on this course is a definite favourite as it offers panoramic vies of the beautiful town of Christiansted to west, Buck Island and Green Cay to the east, and on a clear day you will be able to see other islands in the Caribbean sea.

If you are new to the game you can take up the offer to have a private golfing lesson with one of the two professionals on site, or even take part in a group lesson so you will not feel alone when having lessons.

This course is available to everyone on the island, however bare in mind that priority in reference to tee off time is given to the residents of the Buccaneer Hotel.

All in all, if you are new to the game, never held a golf club before or if you are extremely keen on the game with years of experience, this fine island is sure to please all of you!
